Malathi Silks was never meant to be a business. It was meant to be a safeguard — a place where craft made by human hands would not be lost to indifference.
How it began
It started with a single piece of Kerala Kasavu — brought home from a weaver in Chendamangalam who had almost given up his loom. Malathi wore it to a wedding. Three women asked her where she had found it. She went back to the weaver the next week with an order.
That was 1984. What followed was not a business plan but a growing conviction: that if the right person stood between the artisan and the market, both would survive.
Four decades later, Malathi Silks works with master craftspeople in Kutch, Madurai, Jaipur, and Chendamangalam — many of them second and third generation weavers and printers who have grown with us.
The philosophy
Nothing reaches the store — or our online collection — without passing through Malathi's hands. Not the newest Ajrakh. Not a celebrated Kasavu saree. Not a single Sungudi dupatta.
This is not quality control. It is a conversation. Each piece is asked the same question: Is this beautiful enough to last a lifetime? If the answer is yes, it earns its place. If not, it goes back — regardless of price, rarity, or how far it has travelled.
